Husband of murdered teacher delivers emotional speech

The husband of the Singaporean teacher murdered in Cambodia spoke yesterday of how he has forgiven her killers.

Fighting back tears, Mr Paul Ng delivered an emotional speech at a memorial service in Glad Tidings Church. He said:

“Though the actions of those responsible will have legal consequences, I forgive them.

“There are those here who carry guilt feelings over what happened. It was a combination of things which went wrong that led to this. I want to say, I blame no one.”

His wife, 55-year-old relief principal Wendy Ng, was found dead last week in her living quarters at Hope International School (Kampong Speu). Four Cambodian workers who were helping to build the school’s new compound have confessed to the murder.

Mr Ng – who is chairman of the board at Glad Tidings Church – had to compose himself before delivering his speech.

It contained the same message of forgiveness that he gave to those who attended a memorial service in Cambodia last Friday.

Congregation member Sng-Fun Poh Yoke, 59, said yesterday’s service was supposed to have been a celebration of the church’s 56th anniversary.
