有求生欲望的人 才是英雄

《新报》( Newpaper)的前意外记者冯时光(右)在1997年独家报道了一条轰动社会的客工新闻,该事件最近被拍成短片,再次唤起人们检讨客工在本地的待遇。

在惹兰乌鲁三巴旺(Jalan Ulu Sembawang)一道荒凉深沟的壁面上,我相信经过20多年岁月的洗涤,即使是岛国日日艳阳高照,它永远都是“湿”的,因为它渗透了瘫痪孟加拉籍客工默罕默德巴沙尔(Mohamad Bashar)悲痛的泪水、无助的求救声、漫长的叹息、无尽的惊吓,以及心里永远的创伤。这道心酸的“湿痕”揭发了本地雇主的无情与野蛮。

1996年12月6日,24岁的非法客工巴沙尔在靠近油池(Yew Tee)一个工地的鹰架上工作,因站得太靠近电梯,头部遭下降的电梯撞上,同事马上将他扶到一旁躺下,他却已感到双脚麻痹,自己的脊椎完蛋了。他全身发冷,同事为他盖了一块沙龙。

三小时后,他被抬进一部车子后座,以为会被送到医院,怎知在三巴旺一带却被抛进宽1米,深1.5米的沟渠里。沟渠有污水与许多凶猛的蚊子,巴沙尔的头先栽进水里,身体都湿透了,他挣扎着身子想爬出沟渠,无奈伤势太重而失败。他想要大喊求救,但声带却发不出声音,只能靠在沟渠边缘,听到有车子快驶近时,拼命挥动着手上的沙龙。

每周三中午放学钟声响,学生各自回家,却是宜兰县澳花国小泰雅族编织课辅班开课时间,小朋友各自排排坐,手却没闲着,大手牵小手的画面,是澳花国小独一无二的编织课辅。老师陈罗桂枝是部落耆老,她说,「自己的孩子当然要自己教。」

本地甘牌烧味执行总厨黄群生与香港甘家三代结下深厚的主雇情。

16岁那年,他加入甘穗辉的香港烧鹅名店“镛记”当学徒;辗转在30岁回到“镛记”为第二代掌舵人甘健成效力。50岁,他与甘健成次子甘崇辕合作创立的“甘牌烧鹅”,开业四个月成功摘得米其林一星,并连续四年蝉联米其林一星殊荣。去年10月,他从香港甘牌烧鹅调来本地甘牌烧味助阵。与甘家三代共事多年的黄群生,与读者回首自己和甘家的渊源和烧腊生涯的点点滴滴。

‘Mother’ to more than 300 left-behind children

It was Saturday night, and Ma Jun was still busy helping children at her school take showers.

“There are dozens staying at school on weekends because they have nowhere else to go,” she said.

Formerly a promising wrestler and college teacher in Xian, the capital of western China’s Shaanxi province, Ma quit the city eight years ago to teach at the village school set up by her father in the province’s mountainous north in 1992 for “left-behind children” whose migrant worker parents have sought work in cities.
