高雄医学大学牙医研究所博士生王常如在屏东縣三地门乡作研究,惊觉当地学童由於物資缺乏,身材普遍比平地学童瘦小,普遍营养不良。

有一次,她到当地海拔最高的学校,三地国小德文分校参访,问学校老师孩子们最需要什么?学校老师竟说『面包』,而不是金钱。 山上连一家面包店也沒有,由於交通不便,吃面包竟成为当地学童的奢求。

Standing at the helm of a three-masted schooner, Alina Koralewska is having no trouble at all staying the course to Barcelona despite being able to see neither compass nor stars.

The 59-year-old Pole is blind and is steering the “Kapitan Borchardt” on the Mediterranean Sea with the help of a talking global positioning programme.

“Course 248, left six degrees, left four degrees,” the electronic voice feeds into her headset, telling her when to turn the helm and by how much.

From a Rwandan Dump to the Halls of Harvard

Nine years old and orphaned by ethnic genocide, he was living in a burned-out car in a Rwandan garbage dump where he scavenged for food and clothes. Daytimes, he was a street beggar. He had not bathed in more than a year.

When an American charity worker, Clare Effiong, visited the dump one Sunday, other children scattered. Filthy and hungry, Justus Uwayesu stayed put, and she asked him why.

“I want to go to school,” he replied.

「老化本来就会让人恐惧,不平顺又带着疾病,让人更恐惧。从父亲的眼神中,我都可以感到他的恐惧,但作为子女,我们也只能尽量安慰他。」谈起父亲失智症发病的过程,台湾行政院长江宜桦几度哽咽,红了眼眶。。。

江宜桦的父亲在2007年左右、刚满70岁时,先后罹患帕金森氏症和失智症,伴随着数次中风,病况快速恶化,如今已然没有知觉,卧床如同植物人。短短几年,全家人都备受煎熬。

The “thingamajig” is an electronic tablet that her daughter gave her some time ago.

Lemonade Stand Project

10 year old raise money to help

When 10-year-old Ella McIsaac started her “Lemonade Stand Project,” she wasn’t sure exactly who she wanted to help, just that she wanted to help someone.

“I wanted to help somebody that doesn’t have long to live, but I didn’t know who,” Ella said.

The “who” turned out to be another 10-year-old, Paisley Kelley, who is the recipient of Ella’s efforts.
